This donation contributes to Oxfam’s work, including programs that can help connect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, like Shaylem with Australia’s political system, building their capacity as drivers of change and creating a more inclusive and equitable society where all cultures and voices are respected and valued.
“Before coming to Straight Talk, I didn’t have a lot of knowledge about political systems,” Shaylem says. “To learn from other Indigenous women about their journeys as politicians, or their journeys within the political system, how they’ve used it to further themselves and further their people … It’s been amazing.”
